When Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively said “I do” over the weekend, they selected a venue thousands of miles away from the hubbub of Hollywood, but Boone Hall Plantation & Gardens in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, does have ties to Tinseltown.

The place where Reynolds, 35, and Lively, 25, exchanged vows in front of 6o family members and friends on Sunday night has been the backdrop of several movie and TV productions. Most notably, scenes from 2004’s “The Notebook” were filmed there. You may remember that in the movie a young Allie (Rachel McAdams) and Noah (Ryan Gosling) visited her family’s summer home. Well, Boone Hall Plantation served as the family’s lavish estate. It was outside the historic home that they had lunch – and the well-to-do Hamiltons were horrified to learn that Noah, who worked at a local mill, earned a very small salary. Later, Allie and Noah went for a boat ride during which Noah stripped and jumped into the water. Her family looked on displeased as Allie followed suit.
In a funny twist, Lively actually dated Gosling in late 2010. Their brief time together, during which they enjoyed an ice cream date at Disneyland, took place after she split with her “Gossip Girl” co-star Penn Badgley and before she started seeing Leonardo DiCaprio in May 2011. Lively and Reynolds, who met on the set of 2011’s “Green Lantern,” started dating in October 2011 — less than a year ago.
Other productions which filmed at Boone Hall Plantation include the movie “North & South” with Patrick Swayze, the TV mini-series “Queen” with Halle Berry, and “Army Wives.”
Located eight miles from downtown Charleston, Boone Hall Plantation is one of America’s oldest working plantations, growing and producing crops for more than 320 years. It’s also a popular wedding spot. While the main house, which dates back to the early 20th century, is off-limits for weddings, there are several other places on the premises where couples can exchange vows. Lively and Reynolds opted to pitch a big white tent to shelter their celebration.
And what a celebration it was. While there have been no details about the “Gossip Girl” star’s dress just yet, it’s likely she wore Christian Louboutin shoes. Not only was the designer seen in Charleston over the weekend, but Lively told Marie Claire in June that her dream wedding plans involved him. “What I planned before I got into the business has changed. Now I’m like, ‘Hmm, I wonder what shoes Christian [Louboutin] is going to make me? And which couture houses should I go to?” she tellingly revealed.
Lively, who is a self-proclaimed sweets lover, selected a $3,000 wedding cake, baked by Maggie Austin Cakes in Maryland, which was driven eight hours to South Carolina for the wedding. A local restaurant catered the rest of the meal.
For entertainment, Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine) performed three songs live before a deejay took over. Lively and Welch have been friends since 2010. “[Blake] actually came to our very first New York show,” Welch has said of how their friendship developed. “She’s been to all of the shows that we’ve done in America and she flew out to Las Vegas just because I was performing there over the New Year.” Lively was such a fan she helped secure Welch and her band a guest gig on “Gossip Girl.”
In “The Notebook” trailer above, see Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams are at Boone Plantation briefly at the 41 second mark and then again at 54.
The reason Reynolds, who was previously married to Scarlett Johansson and before that was engaged to Alanis Morissette, and Lively picked South Carolina as their wedding venue is that, “Ryan has always loved it here, and when he got together with Blake, he started to bring her here, too,” a source told E!. The couple – who live in Bedford, N.Y., a tony suburb north of Manhattan – have reportedly visited Charleston on three different occasions this year – in February, March, and July.
Likely doing some stealth wedding planning.
