Romans 8:37-39 “No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Love. The one topic that some people cringe at and others accept with arms wide open. I mean it is a tough topic to explain the magnitude of the love that God has for us but I believe that Paul said it perfectly in Romans 8:37-39. He was able to grasp the living concept of love as best as a human can.
Not even Paul, as good as his definition of love was or any one on this earth and their definition of love truly understands the love that God has for us. See God’s love is like that onion that we all hate to peel because that action ends with crying and more crying. Every time we peel another layer of the onion off, it’s like another revealing of God’s love for us and then comes the crying because we realize after each layer how much God loves us.
Now Jesus was the perfect example of love personified. We all know one thing for sure that no other “god” that is claimed by someone on this earth is the definition of love like our God. God is love and that is the difference between him and … the others. There are no boundaries, no barriers, no walls, no obstacle courses, no traps, nothing of that sort, just love.
You don’t even have to purchase it all you have to do is welcome it and accept it. See Paul was on the right track. When God says that he loves me, he means despite all the disobedience, the acting out as a child, the murmuring, the complaining which you know all of us have done at one point, he still looks at us with this sparkle in his eye and a smile on his face because he is beholding his creation made in his likeness and his image. His love is complex and simple at the same time and defy the laws, the restrictions and expectations of the world. Just to show the simplicity of love I’ve though about what love meant to Paul and I and many others and broke it right down to the letters themselves.
Let’s take L. I would like to think that a fitting word is living because God’s love is living right? I mean that’s the only sole reason that we know and can feel love from one to another because it is not only said back and forth which anyone can do but it is shown by actions. When people ask us how do we know God exists and that he loves you and you answer because I can feel it, that’s the living love of God that you feel that you can’t explain in words alone but has to be experienced for oneself. Love is alive, it has life, after all it is a person.
Then there is O. Well God is omnipresent right? Always there, here, and everywhere. Well so is love. It’s here there and everywhere. No one can escape it and the people that cringe love are the very ones that need it the most and since love is God, like God, love is omnipresent. You can’t get away from it as much as you try and as persistent as God’s love is, it does conquer all. It’s like a vacuum, once you get sucked in, your in for life.
Then we come to the letter V. Voluminous. Just like it may have taken you some time to pronounce that word and figure out what it really meant, is like God’s love, it takes time and there is so much of it that we may never figure all of the love God has for us out until we see him ourselves in Heaven. His love takes up space and he wants his love to take up all the space that we have in our hearts so he can show us what love truly is.
Then there’s good ole letter E. Everlasting. It never ends and never stops and never will. You can never say never all you’d like but love is one thing that disobeys that saying. Love will always be present as long as God is on the throne and let me tell you, he will always be on the throne as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
So while your trying to figure out what love is, he’s figuring out how to show you how much he loves you and how to fill your heart with that love. Let him in.
